Scary Good

Scary Good.

This is Little Sir’s phrase for when something is new, uncertain and potentially terrifying, but also so intriguing, amazing and potentially fabulous that it is both Scary and Good.

Scary Good.

The train was scary good. The horse ride. The ocean.

Isn’t this such a statement of life? So many things we take on. Scary. Good.

Here are some of my best Scary Good moments:

Leaving a job I loved.

Leaving a job I hated.

Pregnancy and Childbirth.

Writing my first novel.

Buying alpacas.

Leaving my hometown.

Saying yes.

Saying no.

Doing it on my own.

Asking for help.

Moving to Costa Rica.

Moving back to the US.

Falling in love.

Falling in love after heartbreak.

  1. Moving across the country–each of the four times I’ve done it.
    Buying a house.
    Going to college.
Marrying a man I’d known only five months, and most of that in absentia.
    My first writers’ conference.
Many of yours, and some more I can’t publicize.

I love the phrase “scary good.”

Where do I begin? Every morning I wake up seems like I’m being shot out of a cannon without a net, but fear is just enthusiasm that forgot its true name.
