Don’t get your hopes up…what a terrible thing to tell someone.
Including yourself.
Why not? What’s so bad about hope? And why not get them up? I say get your hopes up. Higher! Higher! Fly your hope flag high, People!
Don’t get your hopes up. I’ve said it. I’ve even tried to believe it. But as I reflect on various times when I was saying “I’m not going to get my hopes up”– it wasn’t true. And if whatever I was hoping for didn’t come to pass- I didn’t somehow feel better because I had kept my hopes down. I still felt disappointed.
Hope feels good. Hope uses your imagination. Hope fills your heart with optimism and trust. Hope let’s your soul breathe pure, smog-free air.
And if the hope doesn’t pan out. So what?
